Travelers can easily adapt UPI apps like Google Pay or PhonePe across Qatar, when launched. These transactions will be facilitated through QNB, the most important bank in the Middle East and North Africa that offers over 28 countries.
Indians will now have access to shopping, tourist locations, relaxation lounges, duty-free shopping and also can pay at hotels using UPI. In addition this partnership for travelers is not just an add on; it will enhance the buying experience of Qatari businesses as they enjoy quicker and easier checkouts.
Anubhav Sharma from NPCI International said, We are excited to partner with QNB and introduce UPI payments in Qatar This will make the transaction easier for Indian visitors while travelling abroad.
Commenting on the agreement, Adel Ali Al Malki from QNB said, “We are pleased to partner with NIPL for this unique initiative in enabling UPI based payments system at Qatar.“This is a historical and first of its kind step where a platform like UPI will be offered internationally. The new service aimed at root-and-tooth near real-time domestic payment solution will change customer transaction experience which benefits travelers and merchants domestically.
A payment system operational in multiple countries around the world, UPI (by NCPC) simplifies digital payments with easy QR code scans or direct money transfers using mobile numbers.
In India, UPI is widely used through apps like BHIM, Google Pay, Amazon Pay, Paytm, PhonePe, and BharatPe, simplifying payments with funds directly credited to bank accounts. Now, with Qatar joining the list, UPI continues to redefine global payment standards.
