Sidra Medicine will host its first MENA Microbiome Conference in partnership with the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia (CHOP) from September 28 to 29, in Doha.
With the event titled “From biomarkers discovery to Microbiota-based therapeutics”, leading microbiome experts, researchers and stakeholders from Europe, North America, the MENA region and South East Asia will come together to collaborate and exchange knowledge.
Dr. Souhaila Al Khodor, co-chair of the conference and director of the Reproductive and Perinatal Health Division at Sidra Medicine, underlined how microbiomes not only play a pivotal role in human health but also its influence on disease susceptibility.
This is also an area that Sidra Medicine has been leading the way with new and innovative research and therapeutics, she added.
Jessica stated, “MENA Microbiome will serve as a key platform for the integration of research and interdisciplinary collaboration in this growing field., more than 600 delegates are expected to attend the conference.
You can also expect to learn more about the latest microbiome research from over 20 local and international speakers.
The conference will feature a discussion on recent advances in targetting the microbiome with strategies that specifically address diseases affecting Women and pediatric populations in the MENA region.

Opening remarks will also be conducted by Dr. Rayana Bou Haka, WHO Representative and Head of Qatar’s WHO Office as well as Dr Abdullatif Al Khal Deputy Chief Medical Officer in Hamad Medical Corporation.
Ruth Frey, Vice President of Global Strategy and Business Development at the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia, emphasized the strong collaborations already exist between CHOP and Sidra Medicine; adding that the MENA Microbiome Conference further strengthens this relationship.
“Both of our deep collaborations in training and research capacity building are consistent with the shared goal of global advancement of pediatric healthcare,” Frey said.
World Health Organization (WHO) Representative and Head of Qatar’s WHO Office Dr. Rayana Bou Haka and Deputy Chief Medical Officer at Hamad Medical Corporation Dr. Abdullatif Al Khal are slated to give the opening remarks of the conference.
