Lusail Stadium Hosts Real Madrid in the 2024 Intercontinental Cup Championship
Doha to Host 2024 FIFA Intercontinental Cup Matches
Doha is set to host three key matches in the revamped 2024 FIFA Intercontinental Cup, showcasing standalone competitions among champions from six continental federations.
The final will take place at the iconic Lusail Stadium on December 18, featuring European champions Real Madrid. Stadium 974 in Doha will host two additional matches.
The action kicks off on December 11 with the Derby of the Americas, where Mexico’s CF Pachuca, the 2024 CONCACAF Champions Cup winners, will face the eventual 2024 CONMEBOL Libertadores champions, determined on November 30.
On December 14, either UAE’s Al Ain or Egypt’s Al Ahly will compete against the winners of the Derby for the Challenger Cup in Doha, with a coveted spot in the Intercontinental Cup Final against Real Madrid at stake.
This new tournament, announced in December 2023, replaces the annual Club World Cup, which will now occur every four years with 32 teams starting in 2025.
The 2024 Intercontinental Cup commenced on September 22 with the African-Asian-Pacific Cup Play-Off, where Al Ain triumphed over New Zealand’s Auckland City (2024 OFC Champions League winners) with a score of 6-2. Next, Al Ain will face Al Ahly, the 2023-24 CAF Champions League winners, on October 29.
